According to initial reports, the tanker was passing through the Kot Najeeb area when it was forced to stop because of a tyre blowout. As the driver and crew focused on repairing the damaged tyre, two suspects allegedly approached the vehicle and took advantage of the situation.
The individuals reportedly siphoned petrol directly from the tanker’s fuel compartment, managing to steal approximately 80 litres of fuel. Before leaving the scene, the suspects also allegedly took some cash from the tanker crew.
Authorities were notified soon after the incident. Police have since registered a case and started an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. Security officials have also advised drivers of fuel tankers and transport vehicles to exercise extra caution when stopping along highways, particularly in less populated areas.
Fuel theft is not only a financial loss for transport companies but also a serious safety concern. Petrol is a highly flammable substance, and unauthorized handling can lead to dangerous situations, including fires or explosions. Because of these risks, experts emphasize the importance of stronger safety practices and better monitoring during roadside stops.
As the investigation continues, officials hope to prevent similar incidents in the future and improve security measures for vehicles transporting fuel across the country.
